 "Fab cart - have had for at least 7 years" 2009-12-25
By Kathy (Washington DC)
I live in a high rise apartment bldg, walk everywhere when possible, and live across the street from a Costco and large supermarket. I use this cart every few days for shopping, occasionally for laundry, and for moving odds and ends. It is much, much better than the metal carts available because:

Pros:

- it has four sets of wheels so it is very maneuverable and you can load more weight than you can with a two wheel cart;

- things don't fall out given the canvas construction; I lost a fair number of apples and oranges in a metal cart I used to own;

- it's a lot quieter than the metal carts;

- I feel like it is a safer cart to operate. Years ago I was pushing my metal cart across the parking lot and the wheels caught a small lip in the pavement, this caused the cart to stop short unexpectedly and me to go flying over the handlebars so to speak. I suffered some bad bruises, cuts, a fair amount of embarrassment, and a badly damaged cart. As a result, I swore off the metal carts and bought this one and have never looked back.

- it's quite compact and easy to store; very similar in size to your standard baby stroller; no problem bringing it on metro and the like.

- takes a surprising amount of weight so long as you are sensible in how you load it; I've used it for the megapacks of water and Starbucks frappucinos from Costco without a problem but I wouldn't put something equally heavy if the load couldn't be equally distributed across the bottom. It will easily handle 4+ large sacks of groceries but keep in mind that at the bottom of the cart is an X metal structure with the canvas "cube" resting on top of it so putting something narrow and extremely heavy in one of the quadrants is not such a good idea. That said, I think people who are experiencing bending wheels and the like are simply overloading it and probably running the cart over very tough terrain. I've abused mine for 7 years and it shows little wear and tear but I keep in mind it's limitations.

- one can also hang bags off the handles if you fill up the main compartment;

- the canvas holding "cube" can be easily removed for cleaning as well as be used as a very large bag. I've never had a reason to remove it.

Cons:

- I'm only 5'2" so the height works well for me but I can definitely see how people much taller would find it to be awkwardly short for them.

- The plastic "hook" that keeps the the two handles together when in storage is poorly designed so it usually pops open on its own. Not a big deal since the cart will still remain quite compact on its own without the hook but it would have been nice if the manufacturer had field tested this component a little more. I may use a mini bungee cord in its place if I ever come across a suitable one.

Overall, I have got my money's worth out of this cart and I'm always telling the folks in my building that they should buy this cart whenever I see them struggling with their metal carts. Sure, the manufacturer should have put on larger, rubber wheels and used less plastic, but for the price and convenience it is a bargain. If the manufacturer were to produce a version using higher quality grade materials that practically guaranteed indestructability, I'd be very interested but for now, my cart serves my needs very well.

 "Great...until the wheels break" 2009-10-27
By chris (SF, CA)
As noted by other reviewers, this product is great until...it isn't!

At some point after a year or so of moderate use, my back wheels broke. In my case, it wasn't because of heavy weight (I used it for taking down the garbage <30 pounds I'm guessing).

And when they break, the company doesn't support the product.

Apparently this is why bed bath and beyond stopped selling the cart - because of product returns (BBB has an awesome return policy, even post-warranty).

IMHO, it should last longer than a year or two.

 "Excellent and holds a ton" 2009-09-10
By ClickClack (Pacfic NW)
My Versa Cart is now almost 3 years old and besides a couple of straps that are broken from a new puppy eating through them this cart still takes abuse hauling my groceries from my car in the garage up to my apartment. Everyone that sees it in the elevator asks "Where did you get that"? It folds up to a nice slender bundle and sits right behind my seat on the floor in the backseat area or takes up a tiny bit of space in my trunk. I don't know what I would do without it.

 "Making Another Purchase" 2009-08-20
By Linda (New York)
I purchased this two years ago; not from Amazon but from a major home decor store. They no longer carry it, so here I am at Amazon ready to buy another. As one poster mentioned, yes, one of the rear wheels on mine has had it too, its tilting to the side making maneuvering difficult now, but in fairness: I have used/abused this cart for two years now so feel I got my money's worth. It is constantly being used on rough not well paved city streets, I load it up with very heavy items too. People are always stopping me asking me where I got this cart. Love the fact that it folds up like an umbrella when not in use so it's easy for me to store without taking up closet space. Buying this again!

 "Sturdy and useful but not for tall people" 2009-03-10
By E. Gonzalez (New York, USA)
I have owned my cart for months now. I have had no issues and find it really useful. In fact, I am often stopped by people wondering where they can get it.

The ONE PROBLEM i have is the handles, or cart height, are not adjustable and the cart is low to the ground. If you are above 5"6ft tall you will have to do lots of slouch walking to push it.

 "Handy little cart" 2009-11-05
By K. Gibson (Murfreesboro, TN United States)
This is the second one of these little carts that I have bought. I use them in my closet for permanent press and regular laundry. I can wheel them to the laundry room and easily sort for washing. They are also handy for carrying bulky things from one room to another saving steps and time.

By Debra Daughtry (Lake Stevens WA USA)
I purchased this cart for my mom to help her get her laundry to the laundry room and to help get multiple bags of groceries from her car to her apartment. She really likes it and especially the shelf so she isn't piling her laundry on top of her soap or bags of groceries on top of each other. It folds up nicely too! The wheels are nice and sturdy.

 "Excellent Product" 2008-10-28
By Lynn Lem (Woodland, CA United States)
I live in a 4 story apartment complex and used to use the large [...] shoulder bags to carry my groceries, etc. up to the 4th floor. After noticing increased shoulder, neck, and back pain I found this shopping cart and it has been a life saver. I don't understand why other reviews have said it's hard to steer. If you tilt it on the back two wheels, it steers perfect by pushing it or pulling it. It folds up really easy and unfolds super fast. Very lightweight too.

 "Mixed quality product.. but Stacks & Stacks is a great company!" 2008-09-12
By Justitia (Washington DC, USA)
The first one sent to me looked fine when I took it out of the box. I checked for any damage and saw all parts were there. Based on that, I threw away the carton (big mistake). I didn't put the cart together (very simple) for a couple of days. This was replacing another one I have had for 15 years and was showing its age though still serviceable. Given the problems I have had with this one, I now realize my older one must have been different brand.

While I put the cart together, one of the plugs at the end of the tubing of the one of the main frames came out wet and mushed! Then that water ran out the other end which was missing its plug altogether. Water then ran out of the other main frame tubing which was also missing one of its plugs!

Upon very close inspection, the beginning of rust was noticeable on the inside where the cross bars entered into the main frame.

Stack & Stacks said they would have a replacement sent out immediately and I could send the damaged one back in that carton if the manufacturer even wanted it.

But apparently the manufacturer not only refused to send a replacement but they wanted the damaged one returned first for inspection because this was extremely unusual.

Not the case at all! Subsequent research on the net shows that because this product is made of steel and not stainless steel, it will rust if ever exposed to water or even in damp climates. The plugs at the end of frames are to prevent water from splashing up inside from a wet ground or during transport. Obviously missing plugs can't protect the cart. A number of complaints of rust on various sites exist.

But I liked the product -- it seemed sturdy -- it was a little narrower than my previous one and in my closet better.

Finding a replacement carton for this odd-shaped item was impossible and a packing place would charge half the price of the cart to pack it up. The manufacturer claimed I was at fault for not noticing this essentially invisible damage

I offered to pay for the second one and have the company reimburse me upon receipt of the first one in the second one's box. Charging twice for the same product, however, was against Stacks & Stacks' policy. I then offered to pay for the replacement if the manufacturer did not get the original one back at all. (I sensed the manufacturer suspected I was trying to get 2 for the price of 1.)

After Stacks & Stacks finally got the manufacturer to agree to send a replacement, guess what arrived!? A used one in a beat up carton inside another beat up carton and missing the *same* parts!

So the representative at Stacks said she would take care of this.

I know this sounds crazy -- but I am still willing to take another replacement -- as long as it is brand new and has all its parts. A friend of mine, who builds houses, etc, suggested spraying the edges where the side pieces go into the frame with Boeshield T9 to stop rusting (sold here on Amazon as well as places like REI). It is not a guarantee -- water is most certainly going to get in if used in the rain.

Customer service at Stacks & Stacks is impressive. The manufacturer is a PIA. Who ever heard of a steel shopping cart that can rust?

 "Great Value and Handy Tote" 2008-02-06
By Ohio History Lover (Darke County, Ohio USA)
The cart that I recently purchased was a great value and is invaluable for me since I am disabled. It was very easy to assemble. I use my cart to transport everything from groceries to potting soil, and sidewalk salt to flower and vegetable plants. It is extra sturdy for the jobs I do, too. I love it and it makes my life a whole lot easier. Well worth the price.

 "amazingly bountiful for space and yet compact for storage" 2009-08-11
By Sincerely Yours
If you live in New York City then just pop into the Conran Shop on 59th and 1st Avenue. This where I discovered the best shopping tote on wheels.

Why I love this product:

1) it folds away into the smallest space, which is great if you live in apartment where storage is premium; the foldaway and solid trollys just cant compete with this product

2) once opened up: the storage space is huge. it is easy to carry to the shops and it can easy hold two large shopping bags. No more strained back muscles

3) with a slight tilt, the wheels roll beautifully and with a little nudge, the little stands hold the bag upright as you wait for a bus or at the traffic lights.

4) it is quite stylish and compact in shape - so dotn worry about your image!

I just love it as my upper back is no longer taking the strain for carrying heavy shopping bags and it is so green too.
